It would've been nice if the speaker wasn't an alum journalist for the second year in a row...

This alumnus notes with interest the selection of Bill Schneider, Class of '66 as a diverse commencement speaker for alma mater. In what respect? Don't commencement speakers usually lack diversity -- that is to say, are't the speakers usually success stories. Unless Mr. Schneider has twice had his car towed by a city marshal acting apparently under authority of an administrative tribunal located somewhere in NYC, unless Mr. Schneider has been paying 31.99% on credit card bills, unless Mr. Schneider has had the City of New York artificially inflate property taxes for purpose of changing ownership of residential buildings, with the tax problems vanishing along with the former owners, he might not have a sense of the reality that afflicts those of us among the unrich, the unnoticed, the unprivileged -- and the unheard. A commencement address given by a prominent graduate might be witty, interesting, even insightful -- but hardly diverse if it ignores the travails of the unrich, the unnoticed, the unprivileged and the unheard. Or is the commencement cry henceforth -- " Go forth from this place to comfort the oh so very comfortable, and afflict the oh so conveniently afflictable?"

What a letdown! the Reinharz administration really is poison; all the good speakers must know to avoid us by now.
