OP-ED: Reinharz's problem with radical Islam

Abstract:
University President Jehuda Reinharz has a problem with Islam. Given that Brandeis is the pride of America's Jewish community, and I am a Muslim, one might expect me to condemn Reinharz for supporting Israel and criticizing radical Muslims.

Pres. Reinharz needs to publicly apologize to Mr. Schwartz. Its unseemly for him to have criticized Mr. Schwartz without having looked at Mr. Schwartz's work and background.

It is even more disturbing that Brandeis would hire someone like Prof. DeLong-Bas. This raises serious questions about the nature and extent to which Pres. Reinharz'administration investigated her before deciding to offer her a faculty position. It would be worthwhile for the administration to make the records of this hiring public, in light of the record of support Prof. Delong-Bas has received from Saudi Wahabi institutions.
