Now this alum is wondering if the January 7 declaration that the Hindley matter is now closed was influenced by the last line of UNLV President Carol Harter's letter ending the Prof. Hans-Hermann Hoppe controversy, sparked by claims that a lecture of this economics professor was insensitive to gays. That letter, dated February 18 concluded: "UNLV considers the matter closed."

Earlier in the letter, President Harter observed, "Faculty are called upon to challenge students...." I do not love this Bill O'Reilly phrase, but perhaps here it is not inappropriate: "What say you," President Reinharz?

The complete date of the Harter letter is February 18, 2005. (My apologies.)
