Okay so Brandeis police are going to carry real guns.... the real question is are they going to carry real bullets? If so, why? A large person, and even a riot can be stopped with non-lethal ammunition such as rubber bullets. Who is trying to be Rambo here?

Mr Rosenberg,

I am a former member of an elite counter terror unit in the IDF. I can assure you that "nobody is trying to play Rambo". The Brandeis police are competent and proficient. They carry a pepper spray as a non-lethal defense and subduing method. Rubber bullets are not effective as a bullet in stopping a individual who is charging with a knife or firing or about to fire a gun. This I know from experience. I believe that in light of several instances of calls to Brandeis police reporting fights and possible weapons, it is the legitimate right of the Brandeis police to bear arms in their own defense and in the defense of the student body.
Mr. Rosenberg, I wish that you as well as other detractors of an armed police force would conduct more research particularly with individuals with law enforcement experience. I understand that many members of the Brandeis community have a natural fear of firearms. This is a problem all of in itself. Please try to be logical and less emotional prior to criticizing this wise decision by the administration.

I'd like to thank those in charge of this decision for taking measures like this to help ensure the safety of the Brandeis community. Keep it up!

Let's hope that among the "cultural differences and values" the police are learning to "deal with" is NOT the value of gunmen entering classrooms of studying Jewish students. Because it's clearly someone's cultural value to do that--see Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva. More like they have to learn to identify crazy behavior like we've seen several times in the past year and separate that from merely disorderly conduct.
