An editing error (to correct my own lack of clarity) in the first 2 paragraphs of my letter misrepresents the "right" I join the authors of the op-ed on "Harassment policy" in defending. Their specific issue, and thus the one I refer to in my response, is the right to *complain* about sexual or racist harassment in class, unintimidated by fear of repercussions. This is one of many rights, pedagogical techniques and administrative procedures that together ensure the more general right to a classroom free from racism or sexism. The trouble at Brandeis right now has to do with procedures not followed, or mutually contradictory, in the case of such a complaint.
